Dr Geraldine Spiteri Lucas will introduce this session with a brief overview of the new legal powers granted to the Registrar of Companies.  The session will then take a Q&A format where Dr Spiteri Lucas will be addressing any questions raised by the participants.

The Role of the CSP – MFSA’s Supervisory Approach & Expectations

Dr Petra Camilleri will introduce this session with a brief overview of the role of the company service provider as gatekeeper, whilst outlining the MFSA’s supervisory approach to CSPs and its expectations in this regard.  The session will then take a Q&A format where Petra will be addressing any questions raised by the participants.

Dr Geraldine Spiteri Lucas is Malta Business Registry’s Chief Legal Officer and she heads the Legal and Enforcement Unit. After graduating as a lawyer from the University of Malta she read for a Masters in European and Comparative law. She started her career with a leading local law firm where she used to offer legal advice to local and international clients and also represented various clients, as litigator, before Tribunals and local Courts. She is also a member of the board of examiners for the Department of Commercial Law of the University of Malta.

 

Dr Petra Camilleri graduated with a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta and also completed a Masters of Laws with specialisation in commercial and corporate law with the University of London.  She joined the Malta Financial Services Authority (“MFSA”) in 2012, forming part of the Trustees and Company Service Providers Supervision Team which is now within the remit of the Conduct Supervision function since 2015.  Apart from being involved in the regular offsite and onsite supervision of trustees and company service providers, she often contributes to legal and regulatory drafting projects relating to the frameworks applicable to such entities.
