With effect from 1st July 2021, there will be significant changes to VAT rules impacting businesses (EU and non-EU) engaged in the supply of goods to non-business customers; suppliers of certain services to non-business customers; online marketplaces, and logistics companies, amongst others.
The session will start off by giving an introduction of the EU VAT Action and will explore on a high-level basis the changes already introduced into domestic law as part of the said Plan. The session will then focus, in detail and by means of examples, on the VAT changes that will come into effect from 1st July 2021 which changes can be summarised as follows:
- The move from distance sales to intra-community distance sales and the introduction of the One-Stop-Shop Mechanism;
- The application of the One-Stop-Shop mechanism in the context of B2C suppliers of certain services;
- The concept of distance sales of imported goods and the related Import One-Stop-Shop regime;
- Implications on online market places and platforms facilitating certain supplies of goods
The 3-hour session will provide a refresher of the 2021 VAT changes closer to their implementation date taking into account both legal notices issued by the Maltese VAT Authorities as well as guidelines issued on the topic.
