Capital projects are essential for an organisation. It is not a rare occasion that a firm attains competitive advantages and greater standing in the market via capital projects. Modigliani and Miller posit that the value of an organisation is affected by the projects that the organisation undertakes. This presentation will consider the capital expenditure appraisal techniques that are used in practice to evaluate capital projects. Attention is also devoted to the most common methods adopted by organisations in practice. The utilisation of the techniques that will be described in this presentation necessitates forecasting of financial figures. This presentation will therefore also look at forecasting approaches that are normally adopted in practice.
