The Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Regulations require that subject person identify and verify and carry out customer due diligence on the beneficial owner/s of a customer.
Who qualifies as a beneficial owner under the said Regulations, and what measures are we required to take in order we identify the beneficial owner?
The session aims to understand the definition of beneficial owner and the due diligence required to be obtained, taking into account the different risk levels following the customer risk assessment.
Ariane Azzopardi is an Associate Director with KPMG Malta within the Quality and Risk management function. Ariane has over fifteen years’ experience in this field, and handles compliance and risk management queries, including those related to the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism as part of her day to day duties. Prior to joining KPMG, Ariane used to head the Compliance function and was the Money Laundering Reporting Officer with a Fund Administrator and Corporate Services Provider. Before joining the CSP, Ariane had spent 11 years at Deloitte Malta where she used to head the Practice Protection Group and was also the MLRO and the Deputy Director of Independence. She was seconded to the Global office at Deloitte and participated on a regular basis in practice reviews within the network of member firms in position which he held throughout 2012. He had originally joined the Authority in March 2007 as Director Legal and Enforcement, ICOs, cryptocurrencies, as well as serves as Head of Consulting at TokenKey, a boutique company geared towards advising premier, internationally renowned ICOs by providing tailored services.
