Conflict and disagreement are opportunities for growth in any relationship and they are not problematic in themselves. To the contrary, a relationship where there is no disagreement at all could be a sign of lack of openness, an over eagerness to please or not enough real investment in a relationship. This interactive session will look at the psychological dimensions of conflict and disagreement and why they often become full blown arguments and cause the breakup of work relationships rather than getting resolved. Participants will learn about and practice communication tools they can use when handling disagreement to increase the chances of achieving healthy resolution. These tools and techniques avoid triggering defensive reactions in people and encourage openness and collaboration. The session will also cover the essential skills of perspective taking which plays a critical role in building agreement and achieving win-win outcomes. It will also include an eight-step process for conflict resolution.
